Feature iconAssessment Mode

Restrict Mote features for a set length of time while a class sits an assessment, with an exemption for students whose IEP requires Mote.

Overview

What this Feature Does

Assessment Mode lets a teacher pause Mote features for the duration of an assessment. The teacher chooses the duration (30 minutes, an hour, or through to the end of the day), chooses which features to pause (some tools can stay available, or all of them can be turned off), and chooses who it applies to: the whole class, or everyone except the students whose IEP requires Mote.

Why it Matters

  • Solves the real problem of running an assessment without withdrawing a required accommodation from the students entitled to it
  • Time-boxed, so features come back on their own and no one is left switched off after the test
  • Lets a teacher keep the tools that are allowed and pause only the ones that are not, rather than an all-or-nothing switch
  • Keeps IEP compliance intact during assessment windows

MTSS:

  • Tier 1: Clean assessment conditions for the whole class
  • Tier 2/3: Documented accommodations stay in place for the students who need them

UDL Principles:

  • Multiple means of action and expression: assessment conditions set per student rather than per class
